DHCP Support and Helix ALM

Article ID: 378  |  Last updated: 26 Apr, 2017

The Helix ALM Server application/service runs on your network server and is accessed from a client by its IP address or domain name. If your server's IP address is dynamically assigned by a DHCP server, Helix ALM clients may not be able to find the server.

An advanced DHCP server may support updating the domain name to map a newly leased server IP address. In this situation, using domain names to specify a server address should allow clients and the Helix ALM Web CGI to locate the server.

Note: This issue is not unique to Helix ALM. Any client/server application has the same issue regarding clients or a CGI locating a server at a dynamically assigned address.
