Workflow Automation

TestTrack workflow consists of states, events, and transitions that define the path an item follows throughout its lifecycle. Item link definitions and automation rules can also control the workflow. TestTrack's workflow is extremely powerful, flexible, and completely customizable.

  • States indicate a step in the workflow. For example, Active - Task, Failed Verification, or Closed.
  • Events specify the action that can be performed at each state or step in the workflow. For example, Assign, Estimate, or Verify. Workflow events are stored with the issue record history.
  • Transitions specify an item's initial state when it is created and the events that can be added for each state. Transitions move items from one state to another. For example, Open to Fixed or Fixed to Closed.
  • Assignment rules manage assigning items to one or more users depending on the state of the item. For example, anyone on the quality assurance team can verify and close a bug fix. The first person to verify the fix moves it to the closed state.
  • Triggers provide a powerful way to automate and enforce your processes without the need to write code. Triggers automatically perform actions based on item activities.
  • Escalation rules keep important items at the forefront by letting you define actions to perform on issues after a specific period of time has passed.
  • Workflow overview diagrams display the state of an item, what states it went through to arrive at the current state, and what future states are available.
  • See time tracking totals across multiple item types for a more accurate view of the effort required to complete work.

  • XLS-based reporting engine provides complete control over the look of reports.
  • Charts and graphics allow you to quickly spot trends and see the distribution of defects, change requests, feature requests, and other issues.
  • Live charts provide real-time charting across your development and testing artifacts. Use these reports for greater insight into overall project status and schedule or to add additional information to existing reports, such as issue assignment breakdown and feature requests by functional area.
  • Report on all work items within a specific folder, release or sprint .Pull up a task board or burn down chart for the team's current sprint, use a velocity chart to see what the team has delivered over past iterations, or review the resource allocation plan to balance the team's workload throughout a project.
  • Burn Up and Burn Down charts help you track the status of your current release, and easily view the work completed versus the time remaining for the project.
  • Paste report links in folder detail panes, item descriptions, and emails to make it easy to run and preview just the right report to support the task at hand.
  • Create and view reports from external reporting services, such as SQL Server Reporting Services or Crystal Reports, with external reporting plug-ins.
  • Grouped data report style sheets let you generate list reports with interactive drill-down charts of grouped data.
  • Run TestTrack reports through the SOAP-based TestTrack SDK, enabling execution, publishing, and viewing of reports using real-time data.

Security

TestTrack has multiple layers of security, giving you complete control over accessibility to confidential development information. In addition, TestTrack is a proven platform to help you meet regulatory compliance requirements, including 21 CFR Part 11, Sarbanes-Oxley, and others.

  • Native GUI clients provide secure access using RC4 512-bit encryption. Web clients support SSL.
  • Role-based security groups limit the issues users can see and access, the fields they can view and modify, and the commands they can execute.
  • Seapine's License Server centralizes account information for TestTrack and Surround SCM.
  • LDAP and Active Directory integration lets you validate and retrieve user account information from your corporate directory, simplifying account administration.
  • Strict password enforcement lets you specify password creation and enforcement rules to reduce the vulnerability of your user accounts.
  • Single sign-on support for activate directory allows you to automatically log in using the same credentials used to log in to your computers, eliminating the requirement to enter a username and password.
  • For environments that require strict control over who modifies items, TestTrack's electronic signature support prompts you to enter an electronic signature and a reason whenever an issue is created, modified, or deleted. Key audit information, including the user name, ID, and change reason, is stored with the item.
  • Unusual activity monitoring watches and logs all access attempts. Unusual activity warnings, in addition to errors, other warnings, and informational messages, are stored in the TestTrack Server log for later review.
  • Audit trail logging records the information that is modified when a record is added, edited, or deleted, providing a more secure environment with stricter auditing of changes and greater accountability.

Extend with Open Interfaces

Information tracked in TestTrack can be shared with other applications through a variety of open interfaces. TestTrack can also run external applications.

  • TestTrack supports multiple database engines, including Seapine's fast native database engine, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and other ODBC-accessible databases. Data stored in any of these databases is accessible to external applications with the proper access permissions. Seapine's proprietary database supports ODBC access. Full documentation is included.
