Text Data Not Imported from Excel Files to Datasheets

Article ID: 832  |  Last updated: 29 Dec, 2014

Text data from a Microsoft Excel file is not imported to a QA Wizard Pro datasheet if the first eight rows under the column headers contain only numeric values.

The Excel ODBC driver uses the first eight rows in the file to determine each column's data type. The data type used in the most rows determines the type for the entire file. If the first eight rows contain only numeric data, the column data type is Number. Data that does not match the data type is returned as a null value and all fields that contain text are ignored when importing the file to QA Wizard Pro.

Reformat the cells in the Excel file to Text and then reimport the file to QA Wizard Pro.

Note: The following steps apply only to Excel 2007. Refer to the Excel help if you use a different version.

  1. In Excel, delete all data from the first eight rows under the column headers.
  2. Select the empty cells.
  3. Click the Home tab.
  4. In the Cells group, click Format and choose Format Cells. The Format Cells dialog box opens.
  5. Select Text in the Category list and click OK.
  6. Re-enter the data you deleted in the empty cells.
  7. Save the file and import the data to QA Wizard Pro again.
