Escape Sequence Is Not Defined Error During Playback

Article ID: 788  |  Last updated: 22 Oct, 2015

Problem

QA Wizard Pro returns the following error during playback when an EvaluateRegExpression function is evaluated:

'The escape sequence is not defined.'

Cause

Meta characters used as literal characters in the RegularExpression argument of the EvaluateRegExpression function are incorrectly escaped with one backslash (\). The function cannot evaluate the regular expression correctly.

Solution

Use two backslashes (\\) to escape the following characters in the RegularExpression argument of the EvaluateRegExpression function:

  • ^
  • [
  • .
  • $
  • {
  • *
  • (
  • +
  • )
  • |
  • ?
  • <
  • >

Use three backslashes (\\\) to escape the backslash (\) character.
