Limited Unicode Support with Visual Studio

Article ID: 739  |  Last updated: 30 Apr, 2015

The Visual Studio .NET SCC interface does not fully support Unicode character sets. Project folders and files that contain Unicode characters may not be added to Surround SCM because of SCC interface limitations.

The SCC interface obtains the value of each character in a file or folder name based on the locale defined for a specific computer. If the locale does not match the character set, Visual Studio will not properly decode the characters and question marks (?) will be sent to the Surround SCCI DLL, causing unintended behavior.

To solve this problem, you can set the computer locale to support the character set used in Visual Studio.

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Regional and Language Options icon.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. In the Language for non-Unicode programs section, select the language used in Visual Studio.
  5. Click OK to save the changes. You may be prompted to restart your computer.
