Changing the PostgreSQL Port Number

Article ID: 691  |  Last updated: 23 Dec, 2014

When you install PostgreSQL with Surround SCM 2009 or later, the default port number is set to 5432. PostgreSQL will not work if you change the port number during installation. If a different application uses port 5432, you can change the PostgreSQL port number after installation.

  1. Stop the Surround SCM Server if it is running.
  2. Stop the PostgreSQL service if it is running.
  3. Open the postgresql configuration file in any text edit. The default file location is C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\<version>\data.
  4. Change the port number in the Connections and Authentication section of the configuration file.
  5. Choose File > Save to save the new port number.
  6. Click the Windows Start menu.
  7. Choose Run.
  8. Enter regedit and click OK. The Windows Registry Editor opens.
  9. Locate the SCM Server directory. The default location is MY ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Seapine Software\Surround SCM\SCM Server.
  10. Select the DBPort registry.
  11. Choose Edit > Modify.
  12. Enter the new port number as the Value data and click OK.
  13. Restart the PostgreSQL service.
  14. Restart the Surround SCM Server.
