Using Test Variant Field Codes in Test Cases

Article ID: 593  |  Last updated: 05 Jan, 2015

Note: This information only applies to TestTrack 2008.2 and later.

You can use test variant field codes that will automatically replace all values for the field when test runs are generated. For example, typing ‘Run %Z_BROWSER%’ into the Step test case field will be displayed as ‘Run Firefox’, ‘Run Safari’, etc. in the generated test runs.

To find valid test variant field codes:

  1. Choose Tools > Administration > Custom Fields.
  2. Select Test Variant from the Type list. The available test variant field codes are listed in the Field Code column.

To use the test variant field codes:

  1. Open the test case.
  2. Click the Steps tab.
  3. Type the test variant field code into the appropriate step.
  4. Click Apply to save the case with the test variants. When the test run is generated, the field codes will be replaced with the appropriate value.
