The svn+ssh Subversion Protocol is Invalid for Helix ALM Integration

Article ID: 546  |  Last updated: 02 May, 2017

Problem

The following error is returned when configuring the Subversion integration in Helix ALM and using svn+ssh as the protocol in the repository URL:

'The repository URL, svn+ssh://, is invalid.'

Cause

Helix ALM cannot log in to the Subversion server. The Subversion client invokes a local ssh process, which connects to the remote Subversion server computer for authentication. The login prompt is not displayed because the ssh process uses a command line interface and Helix ALM does not.

Solution

Use the https protocol instead of svn+ssh for secure access to the Subversion server. If you want to use the svn+ssh protocol, use a third-party password caching tool to allow Helix ALM to log in to Subversion.
