Using TestTrack Addresses

Article ID: 423  |  Last updated: 31 Dec, 2014

Note: This information only applies to TestTrack 2008 and later.

TestTrack supports ttstudio and http addresses to open items, such as defects, test cases, and test runs. Following are examples of TestTrack addresses:

  • ttstudio://server.wysicorp.com:99//WysiCorp/dfct?recordID=1
  • http://server.wysicorp.com/scripts/ttcgi.exe?command=hyperlink&project=WysiCorp&table=dfct&recordID=1

Ttstudio hyperlinks are generally opened in the TestTrack Client. If the TestTrack Client is not installed, the item is opened in TestTrack Web. The TestTrack URL Redirector must be installed on the client computer to open ttstudio addresses using TestTrack Web. See Configuring the TestTrack URL Redirector. Http hyperlinks are always opened in TestTrack Web.

Note: Users can only open hyperlinks in TestTrack Web if the TestTrack CGI is hosted on a web server and the server address is configured in the TestTrack project options.

The type of hyperlink you provide to other users depends on your organization. If you only use the TestTrack Client, use ttstudio addresses. If you use only TestTrack Web, use http addresses. If you use both the TestTrack Client and TestTrack Web, use ttstudio addresses.

Examples

Following are a few examples for using TestTrack hyperlinks.

Include hyperlinks in TestTrack emails and notifications

Email templates can include hyperlinks to TestTrack items. Emails must be sent in HTML format if they include hyperlinks. You must also add the one of the following lines to the message body in email templates:

  • TestTrack Client - <a href="%TTSTUDIOURL%">%TTSTUDIOURL%</a>
  • TestTrack Web - <a href="%HTTPURL%">%HTTPURL%</a>

When the email is sent, the %TTSTUDIOURL% field code is replaced with a ttstudio hyperlink to the related item. The %HTTPURL% field code is replaced with an http hyperlink to the related item.

Note: Some external email applications may not be able to display ttstudio addresses as hyperlinks. See Ttstudio Addresses in TestTrack Emails Are Not Hyperlinked.

Copy and paste address into emails and other documents

You can copy an address from the TestTrack Address toolbar and paste it into an email or document. Keep in mind that emails must be sent in HTML format if they include hyperlinks.

For example, to add a ttstudio hyperlink in a Microsoft Outlook email, copy the address from the TestTrack Address toolbar, switch to Outlook, and then choose Insert > Hyperlink. Select (other) as the Type, paste the ttstudio address in the URL field, and click OK.

To add an http hyperlink to an Outlook email, copy the address from the TestTrack Address toolbar, switch to Outlook, and paste it in the email.

Note: Click the Address button on the Address toolbar to switch the address type from ttstudio to http.

Provide hyperlinks to TestTrack items on web pages

You can provide hyperlinks to TestTrack items on a web page. For example, you may want to provide a link to a filtered list window or a specific record for easy access.

Select the item you want to provide a hyperlink to and copy the address from the Address toolbar. Copy the link to the web page. When users click the link, the item is opened in either the TestTrack Client or TestTrack Web. Users can only perform the actions enabled in the security group permissions.
