Auto-Assignment Rules Stop Working

Article ID: 381  |  Last updated: 31 Dec, 2014

Note: This information only applies to TestTrack 7.6 and earlier.

You can only configure TestTrack auto-assignment rules for workflow states that have an event with only one resulting state. If you edit the workflow and add another resulting state to an event that is used in auto-assignment rules, the rules that use that event will no longer work. The states that the auto-assignment rules were configured for are no longer displayed in the Configure Auto-Assignment Rules dialog box and you cannot edit the rules.

As a workaround, you can create an event with one resulting state that is only used for configuring auto-assignment rules for states that are not available in the Configure Auto-Assignment Rules dialog box.

Keep in mind that any new events you create are displayed in the Activities menu in the TestTrack Client and in the Workflow area in TestTrack Web. You may want to use a name that indicates the new event it is not part of your process.

  1. Choose Tools > Administration > Workflow.
  2. Click the Events tab.
  3. Click Add.
  4. On the Details tab, select as the Resulting State.
  5. Enter an event Name and Description.
  6. Click the Custom tab.
  7. Clear the Add a custom icon to the TestTrack Client toolbar option.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click the Transitions tab.
  10. Click Edit in the State Transitions area.
  11. In the column for the new event you created, select each state you want to add an auto-assignment rule for that was not displayed in the Configure Auto-Assignment Rules dialog box.
  12. Click OK to close the Edit State Transitions dialog box.
  13. Click OK to close the Configure Workflow dialog box.
  14. Choose Tools > Administration > Auto-Assignment Rules.
The states you selected in the Edit State Transitions dialog box are displayed in the list. You can now configure auto-assignment rules for these states.

You can also remove the event resulting states, edit the auto-assignment rule, then re-select the resulting states.

  1. Choose Tools > Administration > Workflow.
  2. Click the Events tab and select the event that has the auto-assignment rule.
  3. Double-click the event to edit it.
Write down a list of the event resulting states.
  4. Edit the resulting state.
  5. Clear all but one of the resulting states.
  6. Click OK twice to save the changes.
  7. Choose Tools > Administration > Auto-Assignment Rules.
The state is now displayed in the Configure Auto-Assignment Rules dialog box.
  8. Make any modifications to the auto-assignment rule and save the changes.
  9. Repeat steps 1-4 to re-select the resulting states for the event.
