Locking Table (Microsoft Access) ODBC Error

Article ID: 347  |  Last updated: 05 Jan, 2015

Problem

Microsoft Access is linked to the TestTrack database tables. When you try to open a table in Datasheet view, one of the following error messages is returned:

  • ODBC - cannot lock all records
  • Microsoft Access cannot open the table in Datasheet view

Cause

Microsoft Access locking is set to 'All Records' or 'Edited Record'. The TestTrack Server front load the database into memory and Microsoft Access cannot place an exclusive lock on the table.

Solution

  1. Start Microsoft Access.
  2. Choose Tools > Options.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. In the Default open mode area, select the Shared option.
  5. In the Default record locking area, select the No Locks option.
