Unix Shell Scripts and Shebang Lines

Article ID: 343  |  Last updated: 31 Dec, 2014

TestTrack 2008 and later supports the ability to run triggers, which can optionally execute programs. If you use a trigger to run a Unix shell script, keep the following in mind:

  • The file needs execute permissions for the root user.
  • The shebang line tells the operating system which application to use to run the script. Without it, TestTrack cannot run the script. Following is an example of the shebang line:
    #! /bin/sh

For additional information, read the Shebang (Unix) Wikipedia entry.
