Disable LDAP Server Anonymous Binding Before Upgrading the Seapine License Server
Last Updated
8th of April, 2009
Note: This information only applies to Seapine License Server 4.0 and later.

If you are upgrading the Seapine License Server and the license server connects to an LDAP server, you must disable the 'Use anonymous binding for query' option before upgrading. If you do not disable anonymous binding, the upgrade fails and the following message is added to the license server start up log:

Anonymous authentication is no longer supported for Active Directory with this version of the Seapine License Server. Reconfigure all Active Directory records in the Seapine License Server before upgrading to this version.

The upgrade fails because the LDAP libraries used to communicate with Active Directory were changed from OpenLDAP to Microsoft’s Winldap on the Windows operating system.

Moving to the Microsoft Winldap library was required for the Seapine License Server to support single sign-on. In addition, the Winldap library solves several Active Directory password encryption authentication problems. However, anonymous authentication is no longer supported.

Perform the following steps if the anonymous authentication error message is returned after upgrading:
  1. Uninstall the Seapine product that upgraded the Seapine License Server.
  2. Reinstall the product version you were using before the upgrade.
  3. Use the Seapine License Server Admin Utility to edit all LDAP servers and disable the Use anonymous binding for query option.
  4. Perform the upgrade.
