Upgrading to Mac OS X 10.6 Causes PostgreSQL Connection Errors
Last Updated
7th of October, 2009

After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.6, the postgres user is removed from the system. You will encounter server connection errors if you use PostgreSQL as the back end for your TestTrack Server, Surround SCM Server, or Seapine License Server databases.

When you try to start the server without the proper connection credentials, an error message similar to the following is added to the server error log:

Opening the database connection failed, could not connect to server: Connection refused.

To re-create the default postgres user so the server can start properly, run the attached shell script as root.
