Backing Up Surround SCM 2008.1 and Earlier Databases
Last Updated
8th of April, 2009
The Surround SCM database contains branches, repositories, source files, users, groups, and server options. We strongly recommend backing up the database frequently.

The database files are located in the Surround SCM application directory. Following are the default database file locations:
  • Windows: C:\Program Files\Seapine\Surround SCM\SCMServDb

  • Mac OS X: /Applications/SurroundSCM/SCMServDb

  • Linux: /var/lib/Surround SCM/SCMServDb/*

  • Solaris: /opt/SurroundSCM/SCMServDb/*

Backing up databases

  1. Stop the Surround SCM Server. You can also lock the database. To lock a database, choose Tools > Administration > Lock Database
  2. Recursively copy the SCMServDb directory.

Note: If you locked the database, and you try to copy the SCMServerDb directory, the following error is displayed:

Cannot copy : It is being used by another person or program. Close any files that might be using the file and try again.

If you receive this error, you must manually select all files except those with a .lck extension.
  3. Restart the Surround SCM Server and unlock the database after the backup is complete.
