"Problem starting TTPro on Fedora - /proc/sys/fs/file-max"

Hi,

Having problems starting TTPro on Fedora using Kernal 2.6.17-vs2.0.2-rc24. This is a VPS (virtual server) instance.

When executing /usr/bin/ttpro with either foreground or start arg, the following msg appears:

Starting TestTrack Pro Server:/usr/bin/ttpro: line 53: /proc/sys/fs/file-max: Operation not permitted

Just need some feedback as to what the script is doing on that line. Also, since this is a initial install and the License Server is working, there is no Startup.log file created. Any idea where I can find some messages or logs about what might be happening here?

Thanks,
-Greg

The TTPro script allocates the max number of file handles to the ttserver process using the ulimit command. You might be running a system with a lower limit set, you'll want to modify this in the ttpro shell script you are executing.

Modify this setting in the ttpro script:
TTMAXFILES=65535

To something smaller. You may want to run the ulimit command to see what your hard limit is currently set to.

You may also need to setup sudo rights if you are executing as a non-root user.

We are setting the open file handle so high because users with lots and lots of TestTrack projects will utilize many, many open file handles. So to keep from running out of open file handles (the default limit is usually 512) we set the limit to the max.

Ok, the only way I could things to work was to change TTMAXFILES=256 (could be higher I think) and comment the following:

Lines 53-57 have been commented out:
# if < "$OSNAME" = "Linux" >; then
# $ECHO $TTMAXFILES > /proc/sys/fs/file-max >/dev/null 2>&1 && ulimit -n $TTMAXFILES >/dev/null 2>&1
# else
ulimit -n $TTMAXFILES >/dev/null 2>&1
# fi

TTPro Server now starts.
