"Default a drop down using the cooki"

It's very easy to default another field to a value you save in the cookie, but how can you default a drop down field. The default is user defined and not a system default. E.G. I want the user to enter their department just once, and next time they enter a bug it should be set. It is not like priority where you are setting it to 'Medium' for every user.
Thanks,
Dave.

I have found 1 method, but if the sequnce of the records change then it is no longer valid. You can store the selectededIndex value in the cookie and then set that in GetCookies, however I would prefer to use the value rather than the position.
