For traceability purpose, i want to import an excel sheet that contains Test case name and its respective requirement id. One test case may trace many requirement ids. I am not going to import the actual test case as our format is not compatible with Helix ALM (As it has more number of columns than the Helix supports). Actual test cases are kept in SCM. So, i will have excel sheet with only names of the test cases, the requirement id and the SCM path. Can i import this excel sheet in any form to reduce my work of creating it individually?

Helix ALM does not natively support importing from Excel, but Helix ALM does have a Text Import feature from comma-separated or tab-separated lists. So you could save the Excel file in a CSV (comma-separated values) format and then import that into Helix ALM.

The test case name would map to the Summary field. You might create a custom field in Helix ALM for the SCM path, so that can be imported properly.

The requirement ID is a little tricky. The Text Import feature does not have capabilities to create links based on imported data. One option is to create a custom field for the requirement IDs so that data can be imported, but that will not establish links between the test case and requirements.

It would be possible to write an external application that uses the SOAP SDK or REST API to programmatically reads a requirement ID custom field. You could then create trigger that calls this external application when a test case is created via Text Import and has values in the requirement ID custom field.
