I need help on using excel template for importing and exporting test cases. The option to export test case in excel is grayed out for me. Also, if I create test cases in excel with some merged cells, would I be able to import in ALM?

Let me know. Thanks.

The only command security permission needed for the "Open in Excel" command is View Issues (or View Test Cases or View Requirements). You need to have Excel installed on the computer. You also need to select 1+ issue from the list window for the command to be enabled, as Helix ALM will be exporting only the selected items to Excel.

Helix ALM does not have an "Import from Excel" command, but it does have a "Text File Import" command. If you save your Excel file to a comma delimited or tab delimited file, then you can import that file into Helix ALM.

Thank you RichC

That's correct for CSV file but that gives me error with the merged cells. or if I unmerge then I am not able to get multiple steps under one test case. Is there any way I can configure some excel/csv template?

Appreciate your help.
I have not used Excel templates before, so I'm not sure if this is possible or not. Your feature request for Excel import of test cases was entered into our Helix ALM database.
Thank you so much. Yes, excel is a very popular application to write test cases and importing exporting to from it would be very helpful. Thanks for adding it as a feature request.
