Seapine Software Plays Critical Role in DOE Cleanup Project

The $2.9 billion cleanup is funded by the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Environmental Management and is scheduled to run through September 30, 2012. CWI is responsible for the treatment and disposal of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste, transfer of spent nuclear fuel from wet to dry storage, and decontamination, and demolition of surplus buildings at the INL site near Idaho Falls, Idaho. The cleanup focuses on five major geographic areas that involve solid waste disposal and soil and water treatment from various waste management and nuclear reactor testing facilities dating back to 1949. CWI has used manual methods, such as spreadsheets, to track the complex IT issues associated with the compliance of Superfund federal regulations.
